Sarasota, home turf.

Sarasota is home base, and most of the testimonials on this site come from Sarasota homeowners. From mid-century ranches under old oaks to newer homes off the Tamiami Trail, this is the work we know best.

(01)Overview

Sarasota, as a place to build a yard

The city’s neighborhoods are wildly different from block to block: Laurel Park’s bungalows, Southside Village’s tree-lined streets, Gillespie Park’s older cottages, the bayfront lots of Bay Point and Indian Beach–Sapphire Shores. Sarasota is also home to the Sarasota School of Architecture — the mid-century modern houses that want clean, restrained planting rather than a jungle.

Older lots often come with big live oaks, decades of overgrown foundation shrubs and a lawn that has seen better days. Newer homes in the county tend to have the opposite problem: a thin builder package and not much else.

What usually makes sense here

A front-yard redo that keeps the good trees, pulls the tired shrubs and turf, and replaces them with palms, layered tropicals and bigger, simpler beds. Often a paver walkway or a widened paver drive to go with it.

For mid-century homes, the same idea with a lighter hand: fewer species, more repetition, gravel or rock in place of lawn.

(05)Questions

Landscaping in Sarasota: questions

01Do you work throughout the city of Sarasota?
Yes. Sarasota is home base. Call or text and Craig will set a time to come out.
02Can you work around the big oak in my front yard?
Yes, and usually you should. Designing around a mature oak — shade-tolerant planting, careful path placement — keeps the tree healthy and gives the yard instant age.
03My yard floods after storms. Can you help?
Often, yes. Depending on the cause, that might be a French drain, regrading or redirecting downspouts. Craig will look at where the water collects and where it can go.
